E-Waste and Plastic Waste Management

The E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 were notified in 2011 and came into effect from 1st May 2012 to regulate the environmentally sound management of electronic waste in India.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, in supersession of the earlier rules, notified the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 vide G.S.R. 338(E) dated 23.03.2016, effective from 1st October 2017. These rules apply to producers, consumers or bulk consumers, collection centres, dismantlers, and recyclers involved in the manufacture, sale, purchase, and processing of electrical and electronic equipment specified under Schedule I of the Rules.

Electronic Waste Management (E-Waste)

Electronic Waste (E-Waste) is defined as electrical or electronic equipment that is nearing the end of its useful life. This can include items like printers, multifunction devices, peripheral items, and other electronic components.

The E-Waste Management Rules 2022 notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MOEFCC), Government of India, are the regulations for the management and recycling of Electronic Waste in the country. The regulations are designed to ensure the environmentally safe management of Electronic Waste and promote environmentally sound recycling practices for the lifecycle of electrical and electronic equipment.

Plastic Waste Management

Plastic waste that is improperly disposed of can pollute the environment and cause long-term ecological harm. Therefore, ethical plastic material collection and recycling are crucial to sustainable waste management.

Do’s

  • Please check the product life-cycle information in the Product Information Booklet or product manual.
  • For any questions about recycling or disposal, please contact Minosha support.
  • Always hand over e-waste only at authorised recyclers.
  • Return old or end-of-life products through proper collection process or take-back options when available.
  • Keep unused electronic items separately until they can be given to an authorised recycler.
  • Use available upgrade or exchange/buyback options when replacing old equipment.
  • Dispose of replaced or scrap electronic parts at designated e-waste collection points or service centres.
  • Remember that proper e-waste disposal helps protect the environment.

Don’ts

  • Do not throw any e-waste or plastic waste in regular garbage bins.
  • Do not sell or give e-waste to unauthorised scrap dealers.
  • Do not dump e-waste in landfills, open areas, or pits.
  • Do not open or dismantle electronic products without proper expert supervision.
  • Do not break or cut electronic components without guidance from the authorised service personnel.
